Treat or Trick

Halloween is celebrated annually on 31st October. The celebration of Halloween can be traced to an ancient Celtic Festival known as Samhain which was celebrated at the end of the harvest season in both Ireland and Scotland over the ages. This festival was essentially a fire festival because The Celts believed that on that night the barriers between our world and the spirit world were at their weakest. Spirits were most likely to be seen on earth to create havoc for the living in the form of sickness and damaged crops. To ward off these mischievous spirits, bonfires were lit.

Since not all spirits were thought to be friendly, gifts and treats were left out to pacify the evil and ensure next years crops would be plentiful. This custom evolved into trick-or-treating.

The tradition of dressing in costume for Halloween is to avoid being recognized by these ghosts. People would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits.

For whatever reasons, to us Halloween is purely fun.
This year, my Angels were joined by their cousins - Aiman, Anas, Maisarah & Amir from Birm and Azura from New Castle. They got really2 excited as the nite approaches. I had to become the instant make-up artist for the "witches". Not really good at it but "bolehlah.."

Shasya D Fashionable Witch

Rina D Purple Witch (favourite colour!)
She won the Best Costume at Saffron's Halloween Party

Nat D Cute Witch (I like the witch hat!)
It's her first Halloween

The whole gang (minus Rina)
Aiman (Ghost), Amir (Devil), Amir (skeleton), Maisarah (Witch) & Azura (Witch)

They went "trick or treating" with their dads at Ashford (who else and where else? I certainly refused to walk in the cold weather!!). They were later joined by Syammil & Syida.

The Treats

For all that is worth, the kids had a fabulous time. I am glad that they had the opportunity to experience the fun and fantasy of Halloween. Hope that this will add to their sweet memories.
